The briefing notes that several Brexit bills were lost at the close of the previous parliamentary session on 8 October 2019, including the Financial Services (Implementation of Legislation) Bill, and adds that it is unclear whether these bills will be reintroduced and in what format. It reports that the Government has said it is “satisfied that all the bills that are needed prior to leaving the EU on 31 October are in place”.

  • EIOPA: Thematic review on consumer protection issues in travel insurance

    ESMA has published the results of this thematic review, highlighting issues such as high commissions to distributors; wide variations in claims... ratio; increased conduct risks with new market players and concerns over the exclusion of pre-existing medical conditions from travel insurance products. EIOPA has published a warning to the industry as a supervisory response on the identified issues, particularly with regard to commissions. EIOPA warns insurers and intermediaries that regulators will intensify their risk-based supervision, including monitoring the market for ancillary insurance products. EIOPA emphasises that it expects all market participants to comply with IDD.

  • FSB: Governance arrangements for the UPI

    FSB’s report sets out governance arrangements for the globally harmonised UPI, which notes that LEI ROC is best positioned to become... the international governance body for UPI and UTI and critical other elements.
