In this edition of On Your Radar a number of countries discuss measures for employing foreign nationals. In Algeria changes have been made which will affect oil companies who need to prioritise local employees for upstream operations. Columbia has introduced a special immigration permit for Venezuelan workers. A recent ruling by the Cassation Court in Morocco means that employers will need to consider the real nature of their contracts with foreign employees and can no longer view them as fixed term contracts. Although Brexit has now happened and the UK has officially left Europe, as a result of a twelve month transition period there will be no changes to the employment of new EU nationals who arrive to work in the UK until 2021.

Our colleagues in China discuss their advice for employers in managing employees throughout the outbreak of the coronavirus, an issue that has now become of global significance. And in France pension changes are on the agenda. President Macron wants to move to a unique points based system despite strong opposition from the trade unions.
