The Tracker: status of Public Bills before the UK Parliament - January 2008
Welcome to this month's issue of The Tracker, a guide to the progress of bills going through the UK Parliament.
Their Lordships and the Commons have been very busy since just before Christmas. We now have a total of 49 Bills listed in the Tracker (there are even more private Bills before Parliament which I judge not to be of interest to commercial organisations), and most of those Bills have been considered this month.
Note the progress of, in particular, the Climate Change Bill and its sibling, the Energy Bill and the Employment Bill.
It is amazing how fast Parliament can move when it wants to: galvanised by the possibility that there would be no exhibition to attend at the Royal Academy of Arts, "From Russia: French and Russian Master Paintings 1870 – 1925", a statutory instrument shot through the Parliamentary process at the speed of light to bring Part 6 of the Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Act 2007 (Cultural Objects) into force. This gave protection to the Russian paintings, alleged to have been looted by the Russian authorities at the beginning of the 20th century, which descendants of the original owners had planned to seize as soon as they entered the UK.
