Lotteries.com licence suspended by Gambling Commission

The Gambling Commission (the “Commission”) has suspended, with immediate effect, the licence of International Multi-Media Entertainments Limited, which trades as Lotteries.com, due to money laundering and social responsibility concerns.

Background

The Isle of Man-based operator’s licence was being reviewed by the Commission under section 116 of the Gambling Act 2005 (the “Act”), following which the Commission took the decision to suspend the licence, pursuant to section 118(2) of the Act. The decision was taken due to serious concerns over the operator’s anti-money laundering and social responsibility practices. The suspension relates to the operator’s remote general betting and casino offerings and will take effect immediately, with customers being given the opportunity to withdraw any funds paid into their accounts.

Comment

This is the second operator this month to have its licence suspended by the Commission, following igaming and sports betting operator Stakers. Beyond the above information, the Commission has yet to publish any detailed reasoning for the operator’s suspension. Once known, it will be interesting to consider what implications the suspension might have for other gambling operators within the Commission’s jurisdiction.
