COVID-19 and social security : securing of “multi-active” employees’ situation

European regulations (EC) 883/2004 for the coordination of social security systems provide that an employee performing his professional activity in one or several State members (i.e. so-called “multi-active”) is affiliated to:

  • The social security scheme of his country of residence if he executes there more than 25% of his working time;
  • The social security scheme of the State member where his employer is located in the contrary.

In order to take into account the current exceptional circumstances linked to the pandemic, it was decided that if a “multi-active” employee increases his teleworking or starts working from his place, this will have no incidence on the social security scheme which is applicable to him.
