Don’t miss the Deadline for new Tenders regarding the Renewable Energy Resource Areas

In the Official Gazette on 7 November 2018, The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (“Ministry”) announced four (4) new Renewable Energy Resource Areas (Yenilenebilir Enerji Kaynakları Alanları, “YEKA”) projects, which will be in four (4) different locations (Balıkesir, Çanakkale, Aydın and Muğla). Each project will have a capacity of 250 MW, making a total capacity of 1,000 MW.

The deadline for application is 12 P.M. on 7 March 2019

In the upcoming days, the applicants will be notified about the details of the tender. In addition, the initial ceiling price for the tenders will be 5.50 USD-cents per kilowatt hour and the energy purchase period will be fifteen (15) years from the date of signing the YEKA Usage Right Agreement.

Additionally, starting with last year Turkey has started to implement so-called big-size YEKA projects, i.e. projects with 1,000 MW or larger capacity. Two (2) big-size YEKA tenders (one for wind and one for solar energy resources) have already been held and another two YEKA tenders shall follow. One of them will qualify as Turkey’s first and the world’s largest Offshore Wind Farm with 1,200 MW and the other YEKA project will be based on solar energy with 1,000 MW.
