A Night at the Museum

The British Museum is home to the “Elvis Marbles”, the “Risotto Stone”, the dinosaurs and the Pyramids according to some tourists. It is also the venue for EPRA's Insight London Event with Nabarro.

More than 300 delegates were welcomed on 12 January by Chris Luck (Nabarro) and Philip Charls (CEO, EPRA).The event considered the real estate market outlook for 2016 with a particular focus on listed real estate companies. The analyst's view was provided by Bart Gysens of Morgan Stanley & Co International plc.

A lively panel session followed: Chris Grigg (CEO, British Land), Toby Courtauld (CEO, Great Portland Estates) and Peter Collins (CEO, Kennedy Wilson Europe Real Estate Plc) and moderated by Marcus Phayre‑Mudge (BMO Global Asset Management).

Headwinds and uncertainty (interest rates, the world economy and Brexit) are possible indicators of tougher markets ahead or may just be short term fluctuations.

The appetite for London, tenant demand, low gearing and creating value in prime property in a low interest environment were all positives. It was also explained that the internet does not necessarily hold back shops and shopping centres as landlords and retailers can use multi‑channel retailing to perform event better with the shops being a showcase.

The evening ended quietly over drinks and the occupants of the Egyptian room did not stir.
