Haggis, Neeps and Tatties – Constructive’s Burns Night Supper

If only a blog could convey how “he screw’d the pipes and gart them skirl, till roof and rafters a’ did dirl” as put so eloquently in the words of Robert Burns’ poem, Tam O’Shanter… The  beautiful “skirling” of the pipes welcomed our guests, a broad mix of developers, funders, and contractors, to Olswang’s inaugural Construction Burns Night Supper on 25th January 2012.

Adopting the delightful pomp and circumstance of a traditional Scottish Burns Night Supper, there were thoughtful and rousing renditions of Burns’ poetry, the Selkirk Grace by Anna Weiss and Address to the Haggis by Adam Constable QC of Keating Chambers, amongst others.

It is hard to gauge whether the star attraction of the evening was the most elegant haggis neeps and tatties ever presented (amazingly made possible by our caterers, and dubbed by our Chairman as  “dim sum haggis”) or the dulcet tones of our most esteemed guest, Terry  Magennis from Capital & Regional, who gave a spell-binding peroration on the life of Robert Burns in the Immortal Memory, even sung in part in plain chat. Another highlight was the loaded “Toast to the Lassies” by Peter Clyde, which had us at the edge of our seats, and a very witty response, naturally, from Charlotte Heywood.

All in all, it was a very jolly evening, allowing our guests the opportunity to mingle whiskey, wine and networking in a relaxed environment!
