Czech Republic: proposed energy sector developments

The new Czech Government’s plans for the next four years have been set out in its coalition agreement.

Plans for the energy sector include:

  • supporting nuclear energy (going ahead with a tender to build new blocks at the nuclear power plant in Temelin, renovating the Dukovany nuclear power plant and evaluating where nuclear waste is to be stored)
  • reappraising current schemes promoting the use of electricity from renewable sources
  • strengthening the distribution network to diversify energy sources (including supporting the Nabucco gas pipeline)
  • improving the efficiency of regulatory authorities
  • supporting competition in the market
  • considering the increase of bio-components contained in fuels
  • supporting intelligent energy networks and appliances.
