Czech Republic: copyright fees proposed for hotel TVs and radios

Czech Republic

Hoteliers and other accommodation providers such as boarding houses may soon have to pay copyright fees for TVs and radios in guest rooms, in addition to concessionary fees.

The fees would be payable to copyright protection bodies such as OSA, Dilia and Intergram, the official copyright administrators approved by the regulator.

The new fees may be introduced if the respective bodies approve amending the Copyright Act. It has passed in the Chamber of Deputies and it will now be considered by the Senate. If it passes, it will become law after execution by the President and publication in the official Journal.
