Guangdong Facilitates Mainlanders' Entry to Hong Kong

ChinaUnited Kingdom

With a view to facilitating travel for Mainland visitors to Hong Kong, Guangdong Province is reportedly implementing a new multiple-entry permit scheme from May 2002. In a move to replace the existing two-way permits, this new scheme will involve the Guangdong authorities issuing multiple-entry permits to residents of Guangdong wishing to visit Hong Kong. The new permits will be valid for five years, and will carry digital codes containing the holders' particulars. This new development is expected to simplify entry and exit procedures. However, holders of new permits will still need to apply to the public security authorities for exit endorsement each time they leave Guangdong.
