Beer - Russian State Duma asks 'is it good for you?'

RussiaUnited Kingdom

On 15 April 2002, the Russian State Duma approved a first draft of various amendments to be made to the advertising legislation. The principal focus of these amendments is to toughen the rules relating to beer adverts.

If adopted, the amendments will prohibit advertisers from giving the impression that drinking beer will improve one's physical or emotional state, that it will enhance career prospects or attractiveness to the opposite sex or that it is the best way to quench a thirst.

The second reading is expected in the beginning of May.
