Ofgem welcomes moves to improve gas competition

United Kingdom

On 21st March, the DTI proposed to use its existing powers to make a change to the Gas Act which would make it easier for industrial and commercial consumers to check the accuracy of information held on them by Transco, the pipeline company, and to change their gas supplier. Currently, the Gas Act can be interpreted as preventing Transco from passing on this information which has prevented the correction of inaccurate data and held back the development of competition in the industrial and commercial market.
