Blight - qualifying interests for small businesses

United Kingdom

The blight notice provisions in the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 enable persons holding certain interests in land which is blighted by specified proposals (including land the subject of a Compulsory Purchase Order or a highway proposal) to require the appropriate authority to acquire their interest in the land. One such qualifying interest is an interest of an owner/occupier of non-domestic premises the annual rateable value of which does not exceed a certain threshold. This threshold will be increased with effect from 1st April 2000 from £18,000 to £24,600 to take account of the year 2000 rating revaluation. This modification is contained in the Town and Country Planning (Blight Provisions England) Order 2000 (SI 2000 No 539).
