EU: Vehicle emissions - carbon dioxide

The Committee of the Regions has published its Opinion on “Transport and CO2 - Developing a Community Approach”. The Committee endorses the Commission’s wish to adopt policies to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from transport in order to meet the targets set under the Kyoto Protocol. Transport is seen as a key sector where action must be taken and the Committee recommends managing the demand for mobility, co-operating with local authorities and regions to ensure that measures are practical, efficient and politically viable and assuring the business sector that there is a market for green transport goods.
