Procedure against Daimler Chrysler

United Kingdom

On 11 and 12 December 1996, the Commission carried out unannounced inspections on the premises of Daimler Benz, Mercedes Benz Belgium, Mercedes Benz Nederland, Mercedes Benz Spain, one dealer in Belgium and in the Netherlands respectively, and two Spanish dealers. On 1 April 1999, the Commission sent a statement of objections to Daimler Chrysler. The Commission alleges that Daimler Chrysler is restricting competition. Daimler Chrysler has until mid-June 1999 to respond to the Commission in writing. It may also request an oral hearing chaired by the Commission’s Hearing Officer and attended by the Advisory Committee of Restrictive Practices and Monopolies which is made up of representatives of the Member States’ competition authorities.
