Tracy Hrusa highlights some important recent changes

Domestic Servants
The domestic worker amnesty has been extended for three months from 23rd July 1999.

Unmarried Partner Concession
The unmarried partner concession has been amended. The period of co-habitation required before being allowed to stay in the UK has been reduced from four years to two years. However, the probationary period before settlement may be granted has been increased from one year to two years. Therefore, there must be a four year co-habitation period before the grant of settlement.

Passport Crisis
The passport crisis has been well publicised in the media and the Immigration Team has given a number of interviews to the press about the situation. The problem was partly caused by the implementation of a new computer system (sounds familiar?) and the new requirement for children under 16 who are not already included in the passport of one of their parents to apply for passports in their own right. The Government has taken a number of well publicised emergency measures to resolve the crisis.
