Copyright and related rights in the Information Society

United Kingdom

The Commission has published an amended proposal for a Directive on the harmonisation of certain aspects of copyright and related rights in the information society. After defining the objective and scope of the Directive, the proposal tackles reproduction rights, the right of communication to the public, including the right of making available works or other subject matter, distribution rights and exceptions to the restricted acts mentioned above. The proposal also lays down obligations as to technological measures and obligations concerning rights management information. Finally, Member States have to provide appropriate sanctions and remedies in respect of infringements of the rights and obligations set out in the Directive. The proposal also amends Directive 92/100 to some technical adaptations. (OJ C180 25.06.99)
