A new Housing Complaint Resolution Service for the entire housing market

England

As part of their commitment to make the property market fairer and more transparent, the Government announced last week a new Housing Complaint Resolution Service for the entire housing market. The new service is intended to provide protection for homeowners as well as tenants by creating a single point of redress for unresolved disputes relating to repairs and maintenance. Private landlords will be required to become members of the new redress scheme, failing which they could face a fine of up to £5,000, and new legislation will be implemented to require all new developers to become members of a New Home Ombudsman.

The announcement is just one of the measures forming part of the Government’s response to the consultation “strengthening consumer redress in the housing market.” Please see attached link for further information. https://www.gov.uk/government/news/james-brokenshire-announces-overhaul-of-broken-housing-complaints-system.
