Are you ready for the GDPR? A Conference report

United KingdomScotland

On February 24 2017, CMS hosted a conference on the practical steps required to implement the new General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”), which will apply in little over a year. The GDPR will bring about significant changes, and the conference explored the various impacts it will have on businesses, along with key implementation concerns.

Keynote speakers from the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the Legatum Institute, as well as a range legal and other experts, discussed:

  • accountability
  • preparing for the GDPR in contracts
  • cyber security and data breaches
  • dealing with employee data
  • updates on GDPR guidelines
  • international data transfers
  • how Brexit may affect data protection law

This report provides a briefing on the key topics discussed during the day.

If you would like to discuss any of the issues raised in this report or wish to provide any feedback on the conference, please contact Emma Burnett (Head of UK Data Protection), the relevant speaker(s), or your usual contact at CMS.
